Joining The Navy
Amaury's decision to join the Navy was influenced by his desire for stability and structure. Despite his academic success, he recognized that college might not be the right path for him at that time. Encouraged by his stepfather, a former Army soldier, he enlisted in the Navy, seeking a sense of purpose and direction.
Upon completing boot camp, Amaury was assigned to the USS Cole, a newly commissioned destroyer. His time on the ship was filled with training and preparation for deployment, which would soon take a tragic turn.
