VIPs - Inventory Positive

This past weekend, I found myself in an unexpected scenario. Despite my indifference towards country music, I eagerly accepted the opportunity to cover a country music festival where veterans were to be honored. My motivation? A VIP ticket offered by my editor in exchange for coverage. Little did I know, this experience would offer more than just music – it would serve as a profound lesson in accepting grace.

As I arrived at the festival grounds with nine companions, the anticipation was palpable. We were armed with wristbands granting us access to VIP treatment: free admission, unlimited food, and drinks. Despite my initial skepticism about the genre, the promise of slow-cooked brisket nachos piqued my interest.

Navigating through the bustling crowds, we were unsure of where to go. However, a gate attendant's assistance pointed us in the right direction. With a tired demeanor quickly replaced by warmth upon seeing our wristbands, she directed us to the VIP section. And so began our immersion into a world of luxury within the festival grounds.

Covered tables shielded us from the West Texas wind as we indulged in delectable treats and enjoyed prime views of the performances. The VIP section even offered chair massages – an unexpected delight. Surrounded by the comforts of our exclusive enclave, I couldn't help but revel in the lavish treatment.

Reflecting on this experience, I couldn't help but draw parallels to the grace bestowed upon us by a higher power. Just as I embraced the VIP treatment despite my reservations, many of us struggle to fully accept the grace offered to us by God.

In the Christian faith, the ultimate act of grace is epitomized by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Through His death and resurrection, He paid the price for our sins, offering us a new identity as children of God. Yet, despite this profound gift, many of us hesitate to embrace our newfound status.

We stand at the fringes of God's love, doubting our worthiness and clinging to notions of unworthiness. But as I've come to realize, attempting to earn grace is a futile endeavor. It's a gift freely given, not something to be earned through merit.

Scripture offers reassurance of our identity in Christ. John 3:16-17 reminds us of God's unconditional love and His desire for our salvation. 2 Corinthians 5:17 speaks of the transformative power of faith, while 2 Peter 1:3 emphasizes the abundance of blessings bestowed upon us through our relationship with Him.

Just as my VIP pass granted me access to a world of privilege at the music festival, God offers us a life of abundance and purpose. He has lavished us with gifts beyond measure, demonstrating our immeasurable value in His eyes.

This week, I encourage you to contemplate the depth of God's love for you. Allow yourself to bask in the truth of your cherished identity as a child of God. Embrace the VIP treatment He offers, knowing that it's not about deserving but about accepting His grace with humility and gratitude, one day at a time.
